Last week two Emanuel teams of four pupils competed in the National Online Reading Championship Quiz and finished an incredible first and second in their heat (Cross-Regional Heat 1). They have now qualified for the (face-to-face) National Final which will be held in a central London location on Tuesday 6th June. This is a high-profile event run by the National Literary Trust and features lots of top authors.

The scores of the top teams are below, with our ‘B Team’ losing by a single point. All eight pupils are very loyal members of the Lower School Lit Quiz Club which is run through the library. Both teams are both incredibly committed (and knowledgeable) and I am absolutely delighted one of them has made it to the final. When the competition finished absolutely nobody in the team thought they had won, but when the announcements were made the room went mad with excitement!

Book quizzes are a long tradition at Emanuel School, and we have been entering competitions since 2010 and this will be only our second appearance in a National Final, eight long years since we competed in the final of the Kids’ Lit Quiz. ‘Quizzing’ can be contagious and one of our players from that 2015 final competes for her university and has been trying to quality for the BBC’s University Challenge tv show!

After Easter we will continue with our preparation and will approach the National Final with confidence.
