Over the course of three weeks (519 hours), the school undertook air quality/nitrogen dioxide testing.

NO2 Levels are considered low at 0-67 µg m–3 (micrograms per cubic meter of air) and the results around the school were recorded at between 17-21 µg m–3 –  an excellent result (Source – Kings College 2019 analysis in partnership with Local Govt).

It’s not possible to ascertain whether we are experiencing an up or downward trend as we haven’t tested air quality before. We will test at the end of 2019 and the same period in June next year so we can measure trends. Given the low emission zone restrictions will be tighter from October 2020, we would expect air quality around the school to improve as a consequence.

We tested for NO2, as NO2 is a gas in the air which is largely produced by the burning of fuel. Emissions from cars, particularly diesel-run engines, are generally recognised as the main sources of NO2. There are few other sources of pollutants in the area.
