In 1594, Lady Anne Dacre established Emanuel School with a bequest of £300 to provide an education for 10 boys and 10 girls. From its foundation, legacies have played a major role in the development of the school and the generosity of our supporters is fundamental to our future.

With as little as one sentence of bequest language in your will, you can enable the school to meet the ever-changing challenges of teaching and learning, to widen access and to provide the very best learning opportunities and facilities for our pupils – both now and in the years to come.

All You Need

With the information below you can invest in our future, and that of future generations of young people.

Charity name: Emanuel School General Charitable Trust

Charity number: 296273

Address: Emanuel School, Battersea Rise, London SW11 1HS

It really made sense to me to mention Emanuel School in my will. After all, without the support and encouragement of teachers at the school, none of the things I’ve achieved in my life would have been possible.

– Markus Jaigirder (OE and Chair of the Governors)

If you have included, or intend to include, Emanuel School in your Will we would be grateful if you would let us know by completing and returning our Legacy Pledge Form. You do not need to share your intentions with us but doing so allows us to make long-term plans, keep you informed and to express our thanks.

Your Donation

We appreciate donations of any size, and we commit to ensuring any gift is used carefully to support the long-term vision and goals of Emanuel.

Providing a written or verbal pledge to the school allows us to ensure your wishes are met, and appropriate thanks and recognition can be made to you and your family (as agreed with the donor). It also allows us an opportunity to explore areas that may be of particular interest, including establishing a named bursary or an investment in our estate.

A legacy gift of just 1% may allow you to not only take care of your family, but to make a huge difference to the community at Emanuel. As an example, a donation of £150,000 would be enough to pay for seven years’ education for a single pupil. Your support can transform the life of a young person and his/her family.

Please contact Sarah McGee, Development Director, on development@emanuel.org.uk or 020 8875 6978 if you would like to discuss your gift.

Thank you for considering or making a meaningful and forward-thinking investment in Emanuel School’s future.

How to include a gift in your will – your questions answered

Do I need a solicitor to write my will?

A solicitor will help to ensure that your will is valid and that your wishes will be met. However, you can choose to use a will writer or online will provider.

What if I change my mind about my will?

We understand that circumstances can change, and you can change the content of your will at any time.

What about Inheritance Tax?

Emanuel School is a registered charity (charity number 296273) and so gifts are exempt from UK Inheritance and Capital Gains Taxes. Under current rules, if you leave 10% or more of your chargeable net estate to charity, the Inheritance Tax rate on the whole of your taxable estate is reduced from 40% to 36%.

However, Inheritance Tax rules can change so it’s always best to discuss your will and the type of gift you might like to leave with your solicitor.
