Last week we hosted ‘The CWIZZ’ the annual book quiz competition organised by a collective of south London authors (CWISL) who love to promote reading. The Hampden Hall was buzzing with 35 teams from almost 20 schools, including the eventual winners from Newton Prep. There was a lovely mix of secondary teams, local primary, and independent schools with terrific representation from our partnership schools. Since over 50% of pupils involved were from Year 6 there was a special trophy for the juniors, which was won by Hornsby House and it was wonderful to see our partnership schools winning lottery spot prizes and free author visits.
We entered two teams with Emanuel ‘A’ coming third with an impressive 43 out of 50 points and Emanuel ‘B’ finished ninth with a commendable 36 points. Well done to both our teams for representing Emanuel so confidently and enthusiastically. Our A team was: Mishka, Beatrice, Cecilia and Jack. Our B team featured: Francesca, Arturo, Ava and Ray.
The enthusiasm around the Hampden Hall was electric with all the authors present reading extracts from their novels and giving away many special prizes connected to their books. The event concluded with a huge raffle and many children winning other lovely gifts.

Our ‘A’ team was also delighted to hear that the winning score from the partner South London CWIZZ (hosted by Dulwich College the previous week) had a lower winning score of 41 points (posted by Elm Green School). This year the CWIZZ has expanded to include a third outer-London competition which is being hosted this week by RGS Guildford.
All the Emanuel players are regular members of our weekly ‘Lit Quiz Club’ and after Christmas the group reconvenes to start preparing for the British Online Quiz Championship, which begins in March. Last year our Year 8 team finished second in the National Final and the players who competed last year will have the opportunity of making up one of our two teams as Year 9 are eligible to participate.
After Christmas we also run our popular Form based Lower School Quiz for the prestigious Neale Shield, which was won last year for the first time by a Year 6 team.
