In the 32 weeks since this wonderful initiative was set up, Smile Brigade has provided 93,000 free meals and 18,000 bags of groceries to residents in need in our local community. They have also saved an incredible 102.3 tonnes of food waste by turning surplus food donated via their charity partners and local businesses into delicious and nutritious free meals for local residents. Many families within our partner schools have benefited and numerous Emanuel parents and pupils have volunteered.
If you have a few hours to spare, the Smile Brigade would love your help in the following areas:
Grocery packers
They need volunteers who can commit to one day per week to help pack fruit, veg and dry goods.
Days Needed: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Location: Clem Attlee Community Hall, Len Freeman Place, SW6 7TN
Time: 10.00am to 2.00pm
Food preppers
They need volunteers to assist their kitchen team with prepping, labelling and packing food into containers.
Days Needed: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
Location: Clem Attlee Community Hall, Len Freeman Place, SW67TN
Time: 10.00am to 2.00pm
Walking buddies
Smile Brigade is looking for ‘walking buddies’ – to offer care and support to persons who are vulnerable. The walking buddies will support them to regain their confidence in getting out and about again. Volunteers will support individuals who are socially isolated with very limited social contact with others due to the crisis.
If you are interested in becoming a walking buddy, or helping out with packing and prepping, then please contact Smile Brigade’s volunteer coordinator Trey – trey@thesmilebrigade.org
