Having written strong letters of application, five of our Y10 students were selected to participate in a Virtual Work Experience Event hosted by St George’s NHS Trust over the half term.

Year 10 student, Ruby, shared her experience;

I really enjoyed the varied perspectives and different insights to a whole range of different jobs in the medical field. It was great to see what it would be like on a day to day basis and I found the advice and messages given by the speakers very enlightening. They spoke about how they balance their family life with a demanding job, different learning routes that led them to their current role, and modern technology they use in their work. The recent and very promising developments in technology could revolutionise how doctors are trained in the future. The work experience left me feeling very excited for the future and eager to do my own research into careers in this field. It also expanded my somewhat narrow view of medical schools, with regards to being under constant stress and frequent exams. Although a full day on a zoom call, it was very interactive and well paced with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. The speakers gave their email addresses so that we could ask further questions. The day very much expanded my previously narrow view about the many and varied roles which all allow the NHS to function and provide such a robust service. I would highly recommend the work experience as for me, personally, it proved to be very helpful in my decision making about the career I would want in the future.”
