Year 7 House Lit Quiz

As ‘lockdown 3’ is now in full swing, for as long as it lasts, we have moved our Lit Quiz activities to Zoom.

In the first term the normal Year 7 Lit Quiz Club was beginning to attract larger numbers of pupils and I was delighted to see some familiar faces at the recent Year 7 Lit Quiz House event. Transferring what is normally a very loud, frantic, and exceptionally fast-moving club to Zoom was tricky and although the online format has less pace, it was still a great success and the participants had a lot of fun.

The results:

  • Winner – Clyde 14
  • Second – Wellington 10
  • Third – Drake
  • Fourth – Lyons

There were several great individual performances, with Amy, Dougie, Elsa, and Oliver being rated as the four ‘Most Valuable Players’ (MVPs) as they answered the most questions. Further House Lit Quiz events will be taking place before half-term for Year 9 and 10.

Lower School Lit Quiz Club

Last term, due to the bubble system, the Lit Quiz Club rotated weekly between Year 6, 7 and 8 and regularly attracted decent numbers.

Moving the activity to a weekly Zoom club gave us the opportunity of bringing the three different year groups together to experiment with different ways of asking quick-fire book-related questions. Many of the questions started off vague, with the pupils having to guess the connection between various titles, authors, or themes. It was not easy and the pupils had to be quick off the mark!

It was lovely to see some very well-read pupils in the first meeting, with Diana, Macsen, Amy and Miles contesting a very tight contest. Amazingly, it was the incredibly well-read Hill form pupil Diana who triumphed (by a point over Macsen) and led for most of the challenge. The Lower School Lit Quiz Club looks forward to increasing its membership over the coming weeks with its wide range of literature and author related quizzes. This is most definitely a club for pupils who love reading.
