Emanuel finished the current chess season in some style, with a 19.5 to 13.5 win against Trinity School. Our league fixtures finished before Easter, so this match gave us the opportunity to experiment with younger players and others who have had limited league experience. In this fixture, we played four rounds of short twenty minute matches in which all of our players won between one and three matches each. As we had more players than Trinity we rotated our team and after the first round sent our senior Year 12 players home early and concentrated on playing our juniors (everybody Year Ten and under).
We were delighted to play four players from the Hill Form and Year Seven, with Eddie, Tim and Franklin all making their debut, joining the experienced Lila on the team. Both Lila and Eddie were top scorers, winning three matches.
The Middle School provided the backbone of the squad with Fred, Jamie, Anand, Harry, Beckett and Max all featuring. Jamie was our top scorer on three points and has finished the season very strongly.
Charlie, Lucien and Connie from Year Twelve played in the first round, with Charlie beating their teacher, after which we rested all three after the first round to give our younger players more board time.
This match featured what must surely have been a first, TWO sets of brothers playing on the same team! Twenty years ago, we had the ‘’Goh brothers’, ten years ago we had the ‘Anadkat brothers’ and now we have siblings Charlie and Tim and Jamie and Eddie.
Well done to everyone who helped us finish this chess season in such style. It is always nice to defeat a boys school, as they are always tough opponents.
