On 27 June the lower sixth year group spent the day developing their entrepreneurial skills.

The students were split into groups of four or five and coached by advisers who came into school from an external agency (‘Entrepreneur and You’) in a variety of business disciplines including marketing and finance.

In the morning the groups set up a small enterprise, developed a product and learned the best method to promote and sell it. In the afternoon, they set up their stalls in the Hampden Hall and were let loose on 25 ‘buyers’ who were given a virtual £2,000 to spend on the businesses of their choice. The session was extremely frenzied and great fun. Prizes were given to the groups who made the most sales, generated the most revenue, had the most sustainable business idea and so on.

The buyers were a mixture of teaching staff, support staff and some of our parents who have been supporting the students as Industry Champions all year. The event was highly entertaining and thoroughly enjoyed by all concerned.

The students will have gained many important skills from the day that will almost certainly be of use to them in their future careers.

Many thanks to everyone involved and especially to those parents who gave up their time for the afternoon and have done so throughout the year. It really is much appreciated by everyone at the school.
