Having won our first match against the Forrest School, we went into the second round-robin match against Chigwell, also from Essex, with confidence and a slightly changed team.

Hetty , who has been making further mathematics look easy, replaced Daniel , and the mercurial Farhan made way for Harry who made history by joining his sister, Lucy, thus becoming the first siblings to represent Emanuel in a Hans Woyda match. Sam , who took the place of the impressive Atitiya, performed very well, as did Harry who was probably the pick of the team.

Unfortunately, despite getting off to a strong start and taking an early lead, Chigwell performed very well in the later rounds and ran out deserved winners by 33 points to 25. In the final group match we face current champions, Bancroft’s School, so I anticipate a flurry of mathematical activity between now and then.

Harry, Sam, Lucy and Hetty

My thanks goes to the four students mentioned above, and also to Mr Bishop for his support.

A couple questions from the race round for you to ponder:

1) Find the highest common factor of 561 and 595.

2) List all the integers between 200 and 300 the product of whose digits is prime.
