Last year was the first trial of bespoke house charity events. Each house selected a charity to support and then were tasked with organising events to raise money for selected charities.
Competition was fierce at the top end, with Nelson flying high early on in the year with their hugely profitable Year 7 disco, and topped it off with a welcome ice lolly sale in the summer term to support Cancer Research UK. Marlborough creeped up behind in second, running a world cup sweepstakes and selling delicious cupcakes for Valentine’s Day to support the RSPCA. Clyde sprang into action in the summer term with Easter treats and a highly successful henna booth during Dacre Day to support WWF. Wellington was also a fierce presence at Dacre Day, supporting Young Minds with their Sponge The Teacher booth – a welcome respite from the warm sun. Rodney – led by charity prefect Sophie – ran a brilliant second-hand clothing sale during the spring term, supporting Cancer Research UK with deals that could rival even the most affordable charity shops. Drake and Lyons joined forces at the end of the year for an ice cream sale supporting Inner Voices. Despite the best intentions, Howe brought up the rear of the pack. With our eyes set to the future, we look forward to seeing the house charity competition continue this year.
