Many thanks to Andy Mollett for coming in to talk to the sixth form Business and Economics students last Thursday.
Andy is currently the Chief Financial Officer at West Ham FC, with former senior roles at businesses including Crysalis PLC, Virgin Radio and Channel 4. This was all after qualifying as a chartered accountant at KPMG 37 years ago.
He gave the students a fascinating account of life at the top of UK business and effortlessly reeled off a succession of anecdotes about company buyouts; sackings; nights out with Chris Evans and boardroom intrigue. His current role is a particularly interesting one given the huge amounts of money that has been invested into football recently and he was able to give some excellent advice to the students on how to manage huge budgets in such challenging circumstances. It is particularly difficult for Andy as he is a passionate Fulham fan and season ticket holder! The students enjoyed the talk tremendously and asked Andy several probing questions on such varied topics as gambling advertising in football and how player transfers might be affected by Brexit.
