Last term we held our annual Lower School Form Lit Quiz competition, a popular event which was first held in 2015 and is always hotly contested and particularly enjoyed by pupils who read a lot. The winners have their Form name inscribed on the prestigious Neale Shield, which is named in honour of the late and very popular former Head of Lower School Mrs Sue Neale.
The contest has four sections: the Hill form, Year Seven, Year Eight and the Grand Final, with the three winners of each heat (and best runner up) contesting the Grand Final.
All questions are book based, and the competition moves at a frantic pace being played with buzzers. This event allows children who are well read, and love books a real chance to shine. The 100-question final was incredibly difficult, and I was amazed that the scoring was so high. The enthusiasm and levels of excitement was incredible, and it was amazing to see the love of books celebrated through the quiz.
The overall scores in the Grand Final:
1st. 6USC 39 (Hill Form and overall Champions)
2nd 7IJT 33
3rd 7MSH 32 (Year 7 Winners)
4th 8 SMR 24 (Year 8 Winners)
All the four finalists were terrific, but we were stunned by the book knowledge 6USC who scooped the big prize. This was the first time a Hill form class won this highly competitive event.
