In a normal school year, we usually enter two external quiz competitions (Kids’ Lit and The CWIZZ), aimed at pupils in Years 7 and 8. As Covid-19 restrictions continue, we were delighted to hear of an online alternative hosted by the National Literacy Trust – the inaugural National Reading Champions Quiz.
Since last September, on a weekly basis, we have been rotating our Literary Quiz Club between Years 6 and 8 and because it was not possible to mix year group bubbles, we made this particular competition a Year 7 activity. Over the last few weeks we have been practicing hard, with around 12 pupils regularly attending the club and last week we had a tricky 50-question test to select the eight pupils who would represent Emanuel in the competition.
Congratulations to our Year 7 quiz masters:
Team A (pictured below, left)
Elsa (7AFK), Macsen (7MM), Jack-Francis (7SMR) and Sam (7MSH)
Team B (pictured below, right)
Carlos (7SMR), Rory (7AFK), Dougie (7MSH) and Humphrey (7MM)
The competition was originally supposed to be held before half-term, but has now been moved to after the break, with the south London heat taking place on 10th June.
Until then Lit Quiz Club will remain a Year 7 activity, with anybody else from the year group welcome to join us and pit their wits against our two teams. The club meet at 12pm in Room 45 every Thursday.
