We offer our primary school partner schools 18 different options to choose from each 5-week module over the course of the Primary Ambitions programme. These include physical sessions such as swimming and gymnastics; more academic choices such as Hola, a Spanish taster, and Maths Ninjas; and also, creative ones. These include Clay Creatures; Filmmaking; and Comedy and Masks, our Drama option.
Primary Ambitions is now in its third week with partner schools on site so is all still quite new for our Lower Sixth and partner pupils, but they are having a great time! Having spent the first half of term preparing to teach, our Sixth formers are now in lesson delivery mode. One of the members of the Comedy & Masks Lower Sixth team, Caitlin, shares her experience below.
‘Over the course of the last 9 weeks, I have learnt how to present to a group of young children and be able to plan and prepare a topic to present with lots of different areas of learning including both written and practical tasks. I have thoroughly enjoyed being given the experience of teaching younger children over the past 2 weeks and am so pleased to see how much they have progressed and adapted to a new environment with many new faces.
Although slightly out of my comfort zone, Primary Ambitions has allowed me to develop my public speaking and teaching skills. It has furthered my confidence to lead a large group of people and have the ability to be in control and know that the children will listen when asked. The children have been amazing in getting involved and have been such a pleasure to interact with and teach each week. I’m very excited to continue with the programme.’
