On October 18th, Emanuel’s 1st XV embarked on the tour of a lifetime. After over 15 hours of travel, they arrived in Malaysia, with their first game quickly approaching against Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor Kuala Lumpur School—the previous year’s winners of the Malaysia Super 15s Schools Cup. The game began at a fast pace, with SMSS applying pressure on Emanuel’s defense, but a turnover allowed Dennis to sprint the length of the field, scoring under the posts. Emanuel won the match 36-22.
In the second game, Emanuel faced Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, set against a picturesque backdrop, and took on the runners-up of the Malaysia Schools Cup. Emanuel fought hard throughout and emerged victorious with a 36-24 win.
The final game was held at Penang Free School. Before the match, the players were welcomed into the grand hall for a presentation. Penang presented a strong challenge, but Emanuel rose to the occasion, defeating them 33-0.
The rugby team returned undefeated, but more importantly, they represented the school with the highest level of integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field. We are incredibly proud of their efforts.
We also asked Kit, the tour captain, for his thoughts on the tour:
“The Malaysia rugby tour was a fantastic opportunity to experience a new country and culture, as well as make new friends along the way. Over the course of the tour, we played some of the top rugby schools in Malaysia, finishing undefeated after three matches—an excellent outcome for Emanuel Rugby. It was truly the tour of a lifetime, and the team thanks everyone who made this happen.”
